What a week, America!!!

Image
Dear Joey, Ali, Zach and Sean, It has been a HUGE week (or two) for our country and we (your dad and I) have been loving that we are able to watch it all unfold.  I felt like I should write a bit about it (like I did when our country elected its first black president- also huge) just so you can read history not just in the books (or I should probably say online) but hear it from our point of view... When I think about some of the BIG changes in America's history that I have found fascinating, it would be the Civil Rights Movement and Women's Suffrage.  I'm just starting my studies in Social Justice but I find it fascinating and something I want to learn about more and more!  It still blows my mind that when Great-Nan was born, her mom was not allowed to even vote!?!  Can you imagine??  Well, right now some people are up in arms about the changes going on, but I have to tell you that we aren't part of that group~ we are over-the-moon excited and here's why...

2012 Election

My Dear Joey, Ali Jane, Goose and Sean, I love that I have this blog to communicate to you and it has been fun (now that the Bigs are old enough to really dig into OUR history) to listen to you read your story and chuckle along to some of the fun things you've done.  I realized that I wrote about the election four years ago (when I first started this blogging thing) and thought I should write about the one we just had.   So here we are in 2012 and President Barack Obama has been elected for another term.  You were all quite funny last night as we talked a bit about the election.  You each were able to tell us who your friends were voting for (but of course you Ali correctly pointed out that your friends can't vote until they're 18) and you each were rooting for one of the candidates (the same one) which was funny for me.  You would watch as some of the states lit up and you'd cheer, or you'd sigh.  It was during this time that we had a good tal...

Election 2008

I would say that I'm not one to talk politics or religion but it seems I have spoken about religion somewhat on this blog- and since it's a diary of sorts... why not go ahead and write about the other taboo. I must say that personally I am glad with the outcome of the election, (o.k so now you know who I voted for) but I also must say that had John McCain won, I wouldn't have been filled with the hatred and ugliness that I've seen from so many people. I've been thinking about it a lot over the last two weeks and it simply amazes me. While I am truly inspired by Obama and agree with many of his policies, I know that he is a human and I don't put my faith in humans but in God. I think that many people thought that because I am a Christian, I am a Republican. Well, I am not. I look at the issues that matter most to me, do my homework and have thus far always split my ballot during election times. What upset me most about this election (and still has me worried...
