Sean's Kindergarten Pow-Wow

Image
Sean had his Kindergarten Pow Wow the day before Thanksgiving!  I, of course, could not be there because of work but Jeff and my folks were able to make it (as you may recall from his guilting text).  No one gave me many details about the day... Cute.  Sean was mostly interested in eating.  He yawned when he was up singing.  My mom took some pictures and VIDEO for me too.  Our last Kindergarten Pow-Wow. Time Flies!!

Zach's Pow-Wow

As I have mentioned in the past, the hardest part of having my job is that I can't go to those special school functions of the kids because often I am busy with my other kids (the ones I teach).  While I was doing a special Thanksgiving play with my students, Zach was busy having his Kindergarten Pow-Wow!  I knew all about the Pow-Wow because I was able to go when Joey was in Kindergarten.  I was on maternity leave and I remember how wonderful it felt to escape for an hour and be 'a mom'.  This year I relied on my mom (and dad who watched Sean).  She went to Z's school, helped a group visit different "stations" and of course snapped some pictures in the process.  Zach tasted different foods and had to hold up a smiley face sign or sad face sign to show if he liked the different foods.  He told me he liked everything.  He also got to paint his outfit, and decorate his headdress.  He chose to make a pattern that went gold, blue, gol...

Celebrating Thanksgiving with the Bigs

On the last day of school before Thanksgiving, the Bigs each had exciting things going on in their classrooms. Of course I was unable to go see them because I was busy in my own classroom painting hands that would soon turn into turkeys. Thankfully, my mom was able to go up to school to see Ali Jane's 'Pow-Wow' in the morning. In the middle of painting my students' hands, I heard my phone register that it had a text message. It is odd for anyone to contact me during the school day so I had to check to see who it was. The message was from my mom and it said two words, "No camera". I felt so sick getting the text because I was thinking about both Bigs all morning and felt a bit sad that I would miss them. I kept trying to think how my mom could get me pictures... borrow someone's camera... use her memory card... ask a teacher if they had a camera she could borrow... when suddenly I got another message, "Camera's working!" And so it was an...

Kindergarten Pow-Wow

I was so excited to be able to volunteer at a school event! (Being on maternity leave has its bonuses!) I was given the wonderful job of drawing tattoos on the children's ' faces... and hands... and arms... there were quite a few children who came back again and again. Joe had fun with his friends, but kept coming back to check on me and tell me the name of everyone in line. It was very sweet! I am treasuring this time for sure. Sending my baby to school was tough, but I know he is in the best hands ever. He has an amazing teacher and I am so very proud of him! Proof again that all you need to do is read with your kids every day!! He LOVES school!
