And the Reports are in...

It's the end of the third marking period and I am happy to report that the Doran kids are happy, respectful and doing their best!  All this proud mama could ever ask for!

Joey is reading above grade level. He scored 81% on both his science and math BAs this marking period.  Here is what his teacher wrote about him:

Joey is a wonderful student and is a pleasure to have in class! Joey continues to make steady progress in all subject areas. We will soon be working on determining important ideas, writing summaries, folktales, and author's intended meanings in reader's workshop. Joey has been making good progress in reading, however, we will continue to work on inferences and author's intended messages which will help with deeper comprehension. Please continue to practice with Joey on insertions and deletions during his reading at home. We will also focus on this in the classroom. In writer's workshop, we will focus on word choice, adding supporting sentences to extend ideas, poetry and porquoi pieces. I am looking for further growth in details in Joey's retellings and more attention to conventions and spelling in his writing. In math, we will continue to work on multiplication and division strategies for larger numbers as well as solving word problems. Keep working hard Joey!

Ali is reading above grade level.  She scored a 99% on her math BA.  Here is what her teacher wrote about her:

It has been a busy 3rd quarter in 2nd grade. We completed our plant unit in science and worked through parts of our air and weather studies. In social studies Ali had great success with concepts teaching goods and services. As a reader, Ali learned a lot about dialogue in narrative text and also practiced using it throughout our narrative writing unit. Ali is an amazing reader. Her fluency and comprehension is strong. Currently, she's working to develop a higher vocabulary to match her reading level. As a writer Ali is learning to apply authors' styles to give her stories more depth. Ali is also a strong math student. I appreciate her consistent efforts, attentiveness and responsibility. Ali is such a kind, caring friend to all. She is well loved by her classmates and teachers!

Zach is reading at grade level.  He is secure and developing in his math areas (there are many strands).  Here is what his teacher wrote about him:

Zach is a joy to have in class and he brightens each day with his awesome smile and thoughtful ways! I was so impressed when he came up with the idea for the "love" of the day. The way he explained it was so sweet. In order to promote reading and writing fluency, please have Zach start a daily journal at home. He should write one sentence about what he did during the day and maybe add a picture to go along with it. Remind him to stretch his words to write down the sounds he hears, reread before writing the next word, leave spaces, start with a capital letter and end with a period. Keep up the great work, Zach!

And the picture above is what the "Love of the Day" gets to wear.  I just love that HE came up with the idea...  Very proud of all my kids~ mostly for their hard work and good attitudes!  Can't ask for anything more!
