Zach's Summer Gig
We weren't expecting to have Zach home this summer but when he was on a waitlist for a class he needed, it looked like we would get another summer with him which I was secretly THRILLED about. They actually called him and told him that there was a spot that opened but that was after he moved home and finding a place up there would have been a pain and a scramble.
The good news was that Zach could work full time this summer with no classes on his schedule. Zach has had the most interesting track record with work. First there was the crazy-ness with the boss that wrote a bad check and then didn't pay him after the restaurant went out of business... That still blows my mind.
Then when he moved home, he got hired to be a lifeguard and work the front desk at Lakeland. He had to do all the trainings (like we teachers do) and he filled out all the tax info he needed to but time kept going by with no mention of when he would start. He had contacted them and when he didn't hear back from one of the main people, another said- "Oh, she's out of town, she'll get back to you in a week."
Well, it had already been a couple weeks of searching and training and so he decided he needed to get money and landed a job at Hungry Howies (the one that we don't go to because they used to always mess up our orders). Not only did the owner hire him and start him the next day, soon he was made a shift lead and got a little bump in pay (which was nice).
Although the money has been nice (and needed), he has hated the job. While he liked the owner, some of the other people he has not been a fan of. He can't wait to make it to the end of July and put in his two weeks. I can't wait either since I feel like I never see him because he's always working.
He's really hoping to get a campus job in the fall and learned that he got into the dorm he wanted with his friends (it's more of an apartment vibe and my guess is it's where he'll be for his remaining years there). If not, he can head back to the Hungry Howies up north that is not too far from his last job and he does know how it's run. He's had some interesting work stories- but don't we all!
